We are Moving

Change of Venue and Business.

Many people are going top think this mental, however we have a plan. That plan is to truly develop normal people into athlete’s, and why not – were does it say people cannot learn advanced technique’s because they do not play a high level sport.

So with immediate effect we will be changing the classes. Please don’t worry as we will be starting from the beginning, re learning the simple techniques before advancing.

To achieve this we will need to use our Olympic weights and bars. We will need our Spin bikes and all of the other equipment we rarely use.

All classes will now be run from Newbold Scouts, (New timetable will follow shortly)

For those who attended Friday night you know what I mean, how you felt finishing that session is now the aim for all classes. We will be holding outdoor Hill Training once a week, Hill sprits and runs will become normal.

Plyometric training will kick in shortly and the levels of training and results are going to reach amazing heights.

PAYG classes will be reduced and some classes will become members only, on top of this members will have now have the ability to check body fat % etc, this will be available from 930am class today. Class numbers will be lower in members only classes so we can really focus and push you guys.

So in Short all Classes at Newbold Scouts, Lea crescent, Newbold.
New Timetable to follow (PAYG means pay as you go class and members)

There will no doubt be questions so please message or ask away, we believe this is a way to really enhance what you can all achieve and really really focus your training.

MFC Ladies smash Birmingham half Marathon

Seven Rugby runners have taken part in the Bupa Great Birmingham Run – completing it with the help of local fitness experts, Military Fitness Circuits.

Bonita De Souza, Vanessa Myers, Shelley Lea, Emma McGahey, Ellen Manning, Kathryn Blackmore and Sarah Gerrard joined more than 20,000 other runners who took to the streets of Britain’s second city to run the 13.1 mile circuit.

The women completed the half marathon in October, each achieving and exceeding their own personal goals.

Office manager, Kathryn Blackmore trains with MFC twice a week. Last year, the 33-year-old set some fitness goals with her sister, and decided to enter events while raising money for a charity along the way.

She said: “I have now completed the September Wolf Run and the Birmingham Half Marathon and am the fittest and healthiest I have ever been.

“I don’t diet anymore and don’t have an issue with my weight and am proud of my accomplishments none of which would have been achieved without the help and support of MFC. “

Finance analyst, Bonita De Souza got fit with a 12-week half marathon schedule, which included runs along with circuits.

The 34-year-old said: “MFC gave me the confidence to believe in myself that a half marathon was even achievable, from someone who struggled to run around a block to running a half marathon was a major personal achievement for me.

“I don’t think I could have done it without the continued support from Gavin and the team.

“Finishing the race was incredible, I was so emotional and close to tears seeing the finishing line. What an achievement, and I raised nearly £400 for the Brain Tumour Charity 59 Heart Fund in memory of my mum, Bridget De Souza too.”

Sarah Gerrard, who works part time in accounts and is a mum-of-two, added a personal training session with Gavin every week to her schedule to get ready for her first half marathon.

The 32-year-old explained: “PT with Gavin at MFC was a massive help in building up my strength especially in my legs and the circuits gave me good overall conditioning and levels of fitness.”

Running with friend, Shelley Lea, Sarah raised more than £500 for Myton Hospice. She added: “This was my first half marathon and I am so pleased I made it round n a respectable time of 2hrs11mins.

“I found it tough but the feeling when you run down Broad Street to the finish line was totally exhilarating. I got a massive sense of achievement out of

running the race and couldn’t have asked for more supportive people than my fellow MFC members who ran as well.”

Journalist Ellen Manning had already run a half marathon before the race but wanted to finish in under two hours.

The 31-year-old followed a half marathon training programme to get ready for the race, but she said: ”When I first told Gavin I was training for a half marathon I said I might do less circuit training and more running. He advised me to keep up the circuits as extra leg strength and core strength would help my running. How right he was!

“I carried on going to Military Fitness as well as my running training plan and found that as my training runs got longer and race day came my legs felt more than ready for the challenge. The great thing about MFC was that I had a group of people to train with and get advice from.

“On the day itself, travelling to Birmingham with the MFC guys, preparing, running, and celebrating afterwards made the whole day more fun than I could have possibly hoped. I made my sub two hour time with 1hr 58 and had a great time while doing it.”

Heat’s no Match for MFC Charity Trio

Three members of Rugby’s Military Fitness Circuits braved the heat and blazing sunshine and completed their first half marathon for charity – and all were under three hours.

The trio – Sorrel Nickless, Shelley Walters and Laura Stanton – all train with the family-run fitness company and took part in the Milton Keynes Half Marathon in aid of the NSPCC in July.

Their combined efforts, along with others’ help means that they have raised more than £1,000 for the good cause with more coming in.

Laura, who lives in Strawberry Fields, finished the race in 2:52:25, said: “It was made even more of a challenge by the heat, it wasn’t easy but it was achievable, I saw a lot of people walking and I wasn’t having any of that!

“We all ran together for the first seven miles and then the heat slowed me down. There were so many spectators cheering you on it was brilliant, people with water pistols, garden hoses and one guy with a bag of ice of which a handful ended up in my sports bra to keep me cool!”

The Language Development Worker with Coventry City Council, said she only realised training partner Shelley was a neighbour when she started running.

She added: “It felt great crossing the line knowing I was able to run the whole way, something this time last year or even Christmas time I would not have felt possible.”

The 31-year-old added: “In the classes since completing the run someone has congratulated me for the achievement and that just goes to show the Military Fitness Circuits ethos of being a family and achieving together runs through everyone who is a member.”

Shelley Walters, who also lives in Strawberry Fields, completed the run in 2.45:21.

The administrator, who works at Asda, said: “To train we did two or three indoor Military Fitness Circuits sessions and Saturday outdoors and a few Tuesday night sessions.

“I went from a clothes size 16 to a size 8 in a year. This was our longest ever run and can honestly say without Military Fitness Circuits training would never even have attempted this.”

The 41-year-old added: “It was brilliant when we saw Laura and ran with her for a while – gave us a real boost. The trainers, Rob and Gav were so encouraging and wearing the green MFC vest gives you a real sense of pride!”

Sorrel Nickless, who lives near the town centre, completed the race in 2.45.

The 33-year-old manager for Network Rail, said: “We’d done a couple of 5 and 10km before but nothing like this. Having seen Laura sign up for the MK half marathon we thought we’d give it a go and signed up too.

“Now I’ve never been fit, sporty, fast or even co-ordinated but not once at Military Fitness Circuits have I ever felt second best or that I’ll be laughed at if I give something a go. Gav and Rob have been amazing with advice on doing things in different ways and so so encouraging. And that’s what gave us a real boost to believe in ourselves and give it a go.

“I felt so proud to be running with the other ladies in our MFC green vests. We honestly would never have done it had it not been for MFC.

“Shelley’s got a brand new body and it’s helped me get over a serious accident. And of course we met the gorgeous Laura who started this whole half marathon thing off! She’s a legend!”

Pink Ladies Kick Cancer into Touch

More than 100 Military Fitness Circuits members donned their special pink vests and ran raising nearly £2,000 for cancer research.

Ladies from across the area joined together to take part in the Race for Life and kick cancer into touch in the world-famous grounds of Rugby School on Sunday.

Entering the 5km event as a group was the brainchild of Sophie Smith who admits never thought she would get quite so many to take part.

Sporting tributes to loved ones, the ladies all congregated together before the event and raised a cheer as the group was announced over the loudspeakers.

In an emotional race, member Sarah Gerard came an outstanding fourth place in the run, finishing 23 in minutes.

Lead trainer, Gavin Daniels said: “It was fantastic to see so many of our members turn out in support of this great charity.

“Everyone has worked hard to be fit enough to complete the race, and I’m really proud of every one who took part. Many of our other members volunteered to help marshal the event.

“This is such a testament to the commitment, team spirit and family values we all share at Military Fitness Circuits.”

Alex’s Charity Circuit Update

Alex’s charity circuit has so far raised £375

Brave Alex is a Mini-Military Marvel!

Young Alex Martin is proving that age is no barrier to fitness as he puts the adults through their paces at a special class being held next weekend.

The six-year-old, who suffers with systemic onset juvenile arthritis, will be holding the fitness class at the Winfield Recreation Ground in Rugby on Saturday in association with Military Fitness Circuits.

Alex, who attends Long Lawford Primary School, was first diagnosed at the age of just two, after being very ill and unable to stand and walk for six months.

Since diagnosis Alex has been on a daily dose of ibuprofen and paracetamol as well as steroids. Initially the professionals hoped to reduce his daily drugs regime after six months, but three years on his condition is still severe enough to require daily steroids.

Since diagnosis the brave little lad has spent two Easters, two birthdays and one Christmas in hospital. He often has joint injections where he is put under general anaesthetic and has steroids injected directly into his painful joints. The injections are meant to last up to 10 months but generally after a few weeks his have worn off.

He goes to hospital every two weeks for an infusion and has weekly chemotherapy injections. Due to all of the medication he is on his immune system is compromised and even a cold or chicken pox can lead to him being hospitalised.

The arthritis has even affected his eyes and he now has glasses and cataracts in both eyes.

Lead instructor, Gavin Daniels said: “We think Alex is an amazing little boy and a real inspiration to everyone.

“Despite all he has been through he is still the happiest boy around and brings a smile to everyone he meets. He never moans and sadly counts hospital as his second home.

“The money raised from the special class will go towards charities that support children like him. We are proud to support Alex and I’m sure he will teach us a thing or two in the process!”

Alex will be putting fitness fiends through their paces at 10.45am on Saturday 22 June. The class is being held at the Winfield Recreation Ground in Rugby and will be open to both adults and children.

Expertly designed by former Navy PT instructor Gavin Daniels and his midwife partner Carrie Smith, the classes will focus on key areas including core muscles and pelvic floor exercises.

The classes will run every week at 1.30pm from the Military Fitness Circuits base at Mill Road in Rugby from Wednesday 5 June.

And for slightly older children, there will be a new class aimed at 8 to 15-year-olds. The Mini Military Circuits will concentrate on fun and fitness but without the weight training enjoyed by their parents.

The Mini Military classes will also be held on Wednesdays at the Mill Road studio, from 4.30pm onwards.

Classes are 60 minutes long and are £3 per session for military mums and £2 for under 16s, please note siblings pay £1 when attending together.

Gavin Daniels, Lead Fitness Instructor, said: “Military Fitness Circuits really is one big family and we’ve had many members asking us about extending our classes so that mums and kids can join in.

“We already have classes for beginners, intermediates and elites and we hope that with these new classes we can help new mums to stay fit throughout their pregnancy and beyond, and also encourage healthy habits and a real enthusiasm for fitness in young people.”

Work Out to Help Out !

Exercise-lovers are being urged to give a little more than just sweat and effort at a special charity class being held in June.

Military Fitness Circuits, the Rugby-based family-run business is encouraging all-comers to take part in the session at Winfield Recreation Ground in the town on Sunday 9 June.

Starting at 1pm, the class costs just £5 and all money raised will go to local charity, Hope4.

The outdoor class, which is suitable for all levels of fitness, will raise money for the good cause, which supports homeless and badly housed people in the Rugby area.

Lead instructor, Gavin Daniels said: “Anyone who has ever experienced a class with us here at Military Fitness Circuits will know that we pride ourselves on being one big, supportive community.

“Hope4 is a fantastic charity and does some great work with people across the area. This charity class is just one of the ways we are extending the Military Fitness Circuits community, and what better way to raise money than to do it while having fun and keeping fit!”
